Wednesday
Namutamba Disabled Children’s hospital and Church Office
After waking up to a delicious breakfast, we were told that Dodie had already left to go to the Church Office. We followed soon after and were greeted by prayers which preceded a beautiful song sung to us by about 10 Ugandan vicars. Then after that we collected Vicar John and Dodie. Then we continued to the kindergarten to have a look at the preparations for the foundations of all the buildings.
Once we’d had a look at the location of the foundation we left to go to Namutamaba disabled children’s centre. The group was welcomed by an energetic performance by the children who despite their disabilities, and some with metal pins sticking out of their legs were eager to sing and dance. We proceeded with a tour of the centre which was given to us by two lovely German ladies, Sophia and Lydia , who both work at the centre. Lunch followed, which was a delight, Mac, Lottie and Natalie read the Little Red Hen. Puppets were handed out and the children had great fun with animal impressions, before we handed out chickens for them to colour in and taught them how to make baskets and plait. Then came the all important volleyball match, Uganda vs. England. It didn’t go well for us as we were thrashed 12-4. Nevertheless it was fun to interact with the Ugandan children and we left with smiles all around.
