Mityana Projects Trust COVID-19 Food appeal – final update
Posted: August 15, 2020 | Uncategorized

A final note to thank you so much for your donations to our Mityana COVID-19 food appeal. Our final total has reached £6,200.73 (before gift aid) from 107 donors, which is a fantastic sum! Let us tell you how we have spent it.
We divided the clergy and lay readers into three groups of 55, 64 and 53 respectively and all the participants in each group received 10 kgs of maize flour three weeks in a row. Group 4 was made up of an additional 51 lay readers and some retired clergy. Adding up the families this is about 1300 men, women and children.
Because of your generosity we were able to feed a 5th group. These were not clergy or lay readers but people who we knew in four different communities who are very poor. Last year the teenagers who came out in February and October visited them and gave them food, matches, oil, salt. It was very moving to see how our young people responded and how much they learnt.
We want to finish with a message from Bishop James:
“Greetings from Mityana Diocese and from my family. I want to let you know that we are very grateful as a Diocese, and the people who have received the food are very happy. Please extend our appreciation to the people of Whitchurch Deanery for loving us; may God bless you all. Once again thank you for supporting our church leaders during this difficult period.
My regards to all and God bless you.”
